Play Leaders

Primary Play Leaders

This year we have relaunched the PlayLeader scheme as part of a citywide initiative to empower our primary school children and start them on the pathway for leadership and responsibility. The Partnership held a day in the Autumn when all primary schools were able to bring specially selected Y5&6 children to be introduced to the Play Leader scheme and receive training from secondary Sports Leaders.

Primary schools have been using their newly trained Play leaders in a variety of ways: at breaktime and lunchtime to help lead & referee small games, to help in PE lessons, to help with out of school hours clubs and also to help lead and officiate at festivals and school sports competitions like KS1 multiskills.

The children involved have shown themselves to be very enthusiastic and able in their roles. Hopefully this will lead them to being future Sports Leaders and Young Ambassadors, and possibly even teachers and coaches of the future!
