Leadership Academy & Sports Leaders

Calthorpe SSP Leadership Academy

As part of the Leadership Pathway in the Partnership, we have set up a Leadership Academy for students in Y9-13. All secondary aged schools across the Partnership have sent students to the 50+ strong contingent of Leadership Academy students. These students have access to extra leadership qualifications and award courses as well as general leadership training to take back to their schools.

The Academy will meet once every term to deliver leadership training and information for students to take back and use in their schools. At each of these sessions the Calthorpe High Five Federation discussion forum meets to give the students the chance to share ideas and discuss issues about Sport in their schools.

Sports Leaders

All secondary and special schools also have a number of Sports Leaders from Y7-13 who help with delivery of clubs, festivals, competitions and events for their own schools, neigbouring primary schools as well as the Partnership itself.

Many of the older Sports Leaders will also be involved in the Step Into Sport scheme which encourages students in Y10-13 to volunteer as Sports Leaders both at school and the local community in return for giving them accreditation for this.

In addition there are opportunities to get involved in Event Volunteering through the Young Event Volunteer scheme. Students aged 14-19 can help out at big community and national/ international sports events such as National badminton Championships, World Wheelchair Basketball Championships, British Track & Field trials, and West Midlands regional competitions.
