As part of the National School Sports Week, Small Heath School's Year 7 sports day will this year take place at Hadley Stadium, Smethwick. This is a new venture for us as previous sports days have taken place on the school astro turf with limited facilities for traditional athletics events. Hadley Stadium is a fully functional athletics stadium thus giving pupils the opportunity to compete in a purpose built arena.
The morning's competition will follow the format of a traditional athletics meeting with pupils representing their tutor groups in track events such sprints, relays and middle distance running. There will also be field events such as long jump and soft javelin throwing.
In the afternoon the competition will focus on group events with the emphasis on fun and games. Events will include the sack race, ball and spoon and the Teachers Race.
