Last week was the Calthorpe & St.Albans Y5/6 Basketball Competition which Percy Shurmer kindly hosted. All 6 of the Calthorpe & St.Albans schools attended which made the atmosphere extremely exciting with all the players, teachers and parents watching on the sides.
Percy Shurmer played as well as they hosted and set the standard by qualifying for the final by beating a skilful Chandos team and then just edging out St.Anne's in a very close encounter. Christ Church matched their efforts with 2 wins over Clifton and Tindal to set up a closely fought final.
Tindal and St.Anne's who both got better and better as the tournament progressed were unable to gain an edge on the other and ended up equal 5th after a 2-2 draw. Chandos then put their earlier promise into practice by beating Clifton to 3rd spot.
The scene was set then for Percy Shurmer and Christ Church to battle it out for the top spot. The game swung in favour of both teams at avarious points but it was Christ Church who ran out 8-4 winners at the end.
However, both Christ Church and Percy Shurmer will go forward to the partnership finals as the top placed team from each cluster. We wish them good luck and hope to see them do well. Many thanks to Fran Garcia from Percy Shurmer for organising the venue and all the refreshments, and to Mo Muhsen from Christ Church for helping with the pre-tournament arrangements.
