Calthorpe & St.Albans Y3/4 Kwik-cricket comp.

On a beautifully sunny Thursday afternoon last week, Clifton School played host to the Calthorpe & St.Albans Y3/4 Kwik-cricket competiton. All teams started slowly in their first games but once the 2nd round games came along the competition brought out the best in all the teams with some excellent batting displays as well as some terrific catches from the field.

After losing to Clifton in the opening game, Percy Shurmer chose to field first against Tindal. Both teams played well but Percy Shurmer just edged past Tindal in the final few balls to win by 5 runs. This meant only a win for Clifton would guarantee Percy Shurmer a runners up spot.

With so much at stake it was not surprising perhaps that this ended up being the most gripping game of the competition. Tindal chose to bat first and stormed into a strong lead with their batsmen hitting a number of 4s and 6s. This left Clifton facing the biggest target of the day to win. Tindal fielded very well and got more players out than Clifton had thanks to some very impressive catches on the boundary. However once again Clifton held their nerve and just managed to edge past Tindal in the final minute of their innings to win by 5 runs and win the competition overall, with Percy Surmer finishing as runners up.

Well done to all teams involved as all the games were close. Thanks to Clifton School for hosting and for teir two Y6 boys who bowled and acted as ball boys for all the games. Congratulations to Clifton and also to Percy Shurmer who along with them qualify for the Partnership Finals on Wednesday 30th June 1:30-3pm at Moseley School.
