Christ Church hosted the Football Futures Champions League Finals tonight at Farm Park in Sparkbrook. Four teams contested the Finals: Christ Church, Montgomery, Greet and Yarnfield.
Christ Church decked out in their new Dutch style orange and black kit beat all 3 teams in the group stage without conceding a goal but like the Dutch in the World Cup Final they were unable to score a winner in normal time. After some resolute defending it ended 0-0 and went to extra time with a Golden Goal unfortunately deciding in favour for Greet who forced the ball home after a blocked clearance and save from the Keeper.
It was a sad way to lose but the Christ Church boys showed great character in congratulating their opponents. All the teams played in equally good spirits and warmly cheered the first ever Christ Church Football Futures Champions League Winners: Greet Primary School.
Congratulations to all involved over the past few weeks. It has showcased some very exciting school football matches and given the children involved a great experience. Well done to Mo Muhsen and Leroy Richards of Football Futures for arranging it all. Great job everyone!
