Yesterday saw Bordesley Village dominate at the Y4/5 Tag Rugby Finals. All 3 of their teams made the semi-finals with their A team eventually winning the main Cup competition over an extremely talented Leigh side who were all in Y4. Leigh had previously overcome Bordesley Village C in the group stages and then their B team in the semi-finals so were looking to make a clean sweep. However despite it being 1-1 for much of the final, Bordesley Village A proved just a bit too strong and edged away in the final couple of minutes to win 3-1.
The mixed 7-a-side tag rugby competition was hosted by Moseley RFC with 5 of their 1st players helping to coach and referee the matches. Assisted by SSCo Brad Cox and four Y10 Sports Leaders from St.Albans Academy the competition was a great success with all teams playing at least 6 games in a mixture of round-robin and knock-out games. Teams were also able to get coaching from Moseley player Ally and St.Albans students when they weren't playing matches.
The top 4 teams after the group and quarter final stages contested the Cup which Bordesley Village A won, with Leigh School runners up and Bordesley Village B and C finishing 3rd and 4th respectively.
However in true rugby 7s tradition there were tiered competitions for the other teams outside the top 4 to ensure everyone had something to play for.
The Plate competition (positions 5-8) was just as hotly contested as the main Cup. Christ Church who had finished 2nd to Bordesley Village A in their group were looking to add to their trophy haul but were outclassed by an ever improving Chandos side who had really hit form after lunch. After beating Tindal 4-1 in the Plate semi-final they repeated the scoreline against Christ Church to win the Plate final 4-1.
Elsewhere, Clifton, Parkhill and Springfield battled it out in the round-robin play offs with Clifton running out winners to seal 9th spot. While Percy Shurmer, who were possibly one of the most improved teams of the day sealed 7th place with a 4-2 win over Tindal School.
Congratulations to all who took part and a big thank you to all the all the staff, SSCos, Sports Leaders and Moseley players for all their time and hard work on the day.
