World Cup Fever Hits St Ben’s
At St Benedict’s Infants we are embracing the world cup competition.
In Foundation Stage we have a role play fitness room where the children can play miniature football. This has improved their fine motor skills but more importantly their social skills as it has encouraged them to share, take turns and work as a team. In our fitness room children can take part in yoga. They are asked to load the video player independently which encourages their ICT skills and then copy the actions on the video. The children seem to love it, often spending up to an hour a day in the fitness room.
Also in the Foundation Stage we have been looking at flags from countries taking part in the world cup as part of our work in Knowledge and Understanding of the World. Children have been designing their own football shirts in Red 6 and will be displaying them during a class assembly on Thursday 17th June.
Elsewhere in the school KS1 are planning their own World Cup Final! We held a world cup draw in each year group assembly last week. Each class in each year drew out 5 countries to support during the competition. The class who is supporting the two countries in the final will form their own team and we will hold our own world cup final. Year 1 teachers are supporting Australia and Year 2 teachers are supporting Mexico so if either of those teams are in the final, the teachers will form a team.
This has really raised the awareness of the world cup at St Bens and the children are really excited!
