Calthorpe & St.Albans Y5/6 Indoor Athletics

Last week Calthorpe School hosted the combined Calthorpe & St.Albans cluster Sportshall Athletics competition for Y5/6. Christ Church, Chandos and Percy Shurmer all entered boys and girls teams into the event which was run by Y10 Sports Leaders from St.Albans Academy.

The Field events came first with teams entering 2 boys and 2 girls into each of the five events: Chest Throw, Vertical Jump, Standing Long Jump, Standing Triple Jump & Speed Bounce.

After some good performances from all teams the field events made way for the Track. Using reversaboards to push off one wall the teams took part in 6 different races including: 1 lap sprint, 2 lap sprint, 4 x 1l ap sprint, hurdles relay, obstacle relay and a 6lap mixed distance paarlauf relay.

At the end Chandos managed to take the Girls title and after countback Percy Shurmer were awarded the Boys title. Both teams were put forward to the Partnership finals which took place earlier this week at the NIA where Percy Shurmer's boys managed to finish in 2nd place only a few points behind the eventual winners from Oldknow School. Well done to all schools who took part, and especially Percy Shurmer who did so well at the Partnership Finals.
