Last week as part of the National School Sports Week festivities, Percy Shurmer and Chandos contested the St.Alban's KS2 World Cup 5-a-side Football competition. The scene was brilliantly set with Percy Shurmer putting up flags from different footballing countries across the world all round the 2 pitches.
Teams from Percy Shurmer and Chandos took on the identies of Brazil, Argentina, Germany & Spain in a round-robin league and play-offs.
After some very close games Brazil and Spain qualified for the Final with Argentina & Germany contesting the 3rd/4th play-off.
Brazil (Percy Shurmer) were pushed close by Spain (Chandos) but in the end the latin-american influence clearly rubbed off on the children as Brazil just edged a tight game to win 2-1.
However, it was the 3rd/4th place play off that stole the show with the match finishing at 2-2 after extra time and ending in a thrilling penalty shoot out. After some nail biting moments and good goalkeeping it was yet again Team Germany who prevailed at penalties winning 2-1 after 5 penalties each.
Well done to all teams and teachers involved. Thanks to Local Leagues & St.Alban's for providing the referees and to Percy Shurmer for doing such a fantastic job as hosts.
