St.Alban's Sports Leaders were asked to help Birmingham Fencing Club coach hundreds of Year 5-7s at Birmingham's National School Sports Week profile event. The event which was hosted jointly by Moseley Rugby Club and Billesley Tennis Centre was one of the Youth Sport Trust premier events with over 1500 Young People present.
The event was part of the national programme to celebrate sport and young people and had young people leading and participating in activities like Tag Rugby, Tennis, Fencing, Skipping and Rowing.
The day was attended by children from schools across the whole of Birmingham with visits from Baroness Sue Campbell the Chairwoman for the Youth Sport Trust and Cabinet Minister Jeremy Hunt MP the Secretary of State for Culture, Olympics, Media, and Sport who spoke at lunchtime just before everyone took part in a mass Olympic themed Wake & Shake routine at 20 past 12 to celebrate the upcoming London 2012 Games.
Also present was Birmingham born, Olympic Heptathlon Gold medal winner, Denise Lewis and Paralympic Wheelchair Basketball Bronze Medallist, Ade Adepitan. St.Alban's Sports leaders were fortunate enough to talk to their sporting heroes and grab a picture with them to remember the occasion. The students even managed to persuade London 2012 mascot, Mandeville to pose for a picture!
It was a great day and one the students will remember for a long time. A huge thank you to all those responsible for making the day a massive success!
